Its dentition is uniquely adapted to this soft-bodied diet; unlike typical insectivores with sharp, crushing molars, the tenrec has small, widely spaced teeth. These reduced teeth are perfectly suited for grasping slippery worms rather than chewing hard chitinous exoskeletons.
